First Poll - ON the Forums

Steve,

Yes, I think the forums are a much better solution than the Yahoo Group.

With the forum you can have categories that you can pay close attention to or ignore as suits your interest.

The discussion are threaded so you can see who is responding to who.

It dosn't clog your in box with messages that grow and grow and grow as people reply to the topic and you sometimes have to sort through stuff you read a month ago to find the new content.

Of course many people like everything landing in their e-mail box, but I'm not one of them.

I guess I should have voted Yes, lets add some features.

Looking around after I voted I was surprised not to see a GENERAL DISCUSSION category for topics that are don't specifically fit in the existing categories.

The other category I would welcome would be an opponent finder or forum. Since this is a regional organization for something that's done face to face members would likely find it of value.

I would also welcome a more robust User Profile. If members could optionally provide a real name, e-mail address, systems gamed, periods of interest, location, personal web site URLs, etc would be great.

When I'm away for a week or more and I return to HMGS web site, I often find myself stumbling around trying to find the forum.

When I click onto Join, I still don't see a link to the forum, you have to subsequently click onto the word membership to get the link to the forum to show on the content panel.

I would recommend making the forum it's own link on the left nav bar much like you already do with the "messages" link that takes you to the Yahoo group. Perhaps that is the plan in any event, replace the Yahoo link with one to this forum.
